How We Recommend

The process behind every recommendation on Berbaloi, and the limits of what it can tell you.

Last updated:

The process

1. Understand the problem — What is actually happening, and what are the realistic causes? This is the part most product articles skip.

2. Identify possible solutions — Including the ones that cost nothing. If tightening a connection fixes it, that is the recommendation.

3. Work out what is genuinely needed — The specific part or tool the job requires — not a kit containing four things you will never use.

4. Compare the available options — Grouped as Budget, Best Value and Better Quality, so the trade-off is visible rather than hidden behind a ranking.

5. Weigh price against usefulness — A cheap thing that does not solve your problem is not good value. Neither is an expensive one you only need once.

6. Check what retailers actually list — We link to Shopee and Lazada listings rather than selling anything. Where we have not verified a price, we do not show one.

7. Assign a Berbaloi Score — An editorial judgement, always published with the reasoning that produced it and a separate confidence rating.

What the Berbaloi Score weighs

Value for money — 35%

Usefulness — 25%

Quality — 20%

Ease of use — 10%

Information confidence — 10%

What the bands mean

Very Berbaloi — 9.0 – 10.0

Berbaloi — 8.0 – 8.9

Good — 6.5 – 7.9

Average — 5.0 – 6.4

Not Worth It — 0.0 – 4.9

Information confidence is separate

The score says how worthwhile we think something is. Confidence says how sure we are about the information behind it. They are kept apart deliberately — a high score with low confidence is a reasonable guess, not a verified fact, and you deserve to see the difference.

Most of our current confidence ratings are medium or low, because they are based on published specifications and general use rather than hands-on testing.

What this is not

A recommendation is not a guarantee. We do not test every product, we are not a laboratory, and we have no qualified experts on staff — so you will never see “our experts recommend” or “we tested this” on this site unless it is literally true.

For anything involving electrical work, gas, structural repairs or your own safety, we will tell you what to look for and when to call someone qualified — not how to do it yourself.
